RR Chat Display adds a fully customizable nameplate to every player. Set a rank tag that appears before your name, a custom text line below it, your health display, and choose separate colors for your name and rank bracket — all from a single in-game menu. What Is RR Chat Display?

RR Chat Display gives every player a customizable nameplate that floats above their head. Instead of just your player name, you can show a rank tag in brackets, a custom text message on the second line, and your live health below that — all with your choice of name and rank colors from the in-game menu.

It's built for SMP servers where players want to show off their rank or status, and for server admins who want to assign ranks to players without using external plugins or command systems. The whole thing works through a Paper + Sneak menu with no commands required.

What The Nameplate Looks Like

The nameplate has up to three lines depending on your settings:

Line 1: Rank bracket (optional) + Player name in chosen color. Line 2: Below-name text in grey quotes (optional). Line 3: Health as ♥ current/max in red (optional). Each line is independent — enable only what you want.

Ranks appear in the format [RankName] before the player's name. The color of the brackets is set independently using the Rank Color picker, so you can have a yellow [VIP] or a red [Admin] depending on your preference.

Admin Panel

The Admin Panel lets any player manage the nameplate settings of other online players. It's accessible from the main menu under Admin Panel and shows a list of all currently online players with their current rank.

Set Rank	Assign any of the 15 ranks to another player — that player is notified
Remove Rank	Clears the target player's rank bracket entirely
Set Below Name	Type a custom text (up to 20 chars) to appear under the target player's name
Clear Below Name	Removes the below-name text from the target player's display

When an admin sets a rank or below-name text, the target player receives a message like "Admin set your rank to VIP." The admin also sees a confirmation message. There is no permission system — any player with access to the menu can use the Admin Panel. For server use, restrict the Paper item to trusted players if needed.

How To Install

Download CHAT_DISPLAY.mcpack using the button below.
Tap it (mobile) or double-click it (PC) — Minecraft imports it automatically.
Open your world settings → Experiments → enable Beta APIs.
Go to Behavior Packs and activate RR Chat Display.
Enter the world. Hold a Paper and Sneak + Use to open the display menu.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: The menu doesn't open when I sneak and use Paper.

Make sure Beta APIs is enabled in Experiments. Also confirm the Behavior Pack is active in your world. The trigger requires holding a plain Paper item — not a written book or enchanted paper variant. If both are set correctly and it still doesn't work, leave the world and re-enter.

Q: My settings reset when I rejoin the world. Why?

Settings are saved using Dynamic Properties, which are tied to the specific world and player ID. If you're playing on a server, the host's world must have the pack with Beta APIs active. Settings won't transfer between different worlds or reinstallations of the pack. If the issue persists, try setting your display again — it should save immediately after you confirm.

Q: Can I use a custom rank name that isn't in the 15 options?

No, the current version only supports the 15 preset rank names. The below-name text field is where you can enter any custom text (up to 20 characters) — this can serve as a custom title if the preset ranks don't fit your needs.

Q: Does the health display update in real time?

The nameplate updates every 40 ticks (2 seconds). This means the health number refreshes roughly twice per second — fast enough to track damage in combat. It shows the current value rounded up and the player's maximum HP.

Q: Does it work on Realms or multiplayer?

Yes. The pack runs server-side (as a Behavior Pack), so it applies to all players in the world as long as the pack is active. Each player's nameplate settings are saved independently. Players on the same Realm or server can each have their own rank and display settings.

Q: Will it conflict with other addons that use nameTag?

Potentially. Any addon that also writes to the player's nameTag will conflict — whichever one runs last will overwrite the other. RR Chat Display updates every 40 ticks, so it will overwrite any other nameTag changes made within that window. If you're using another addon that also manages player nameTags, only one of them will display correctly.
