Minecraft Ultimate Bartering Farm Guide Wiki: Turn Gold into Loot (2026)

Updated: Jan 2026 • Difficulty: Medium • Location: Nether
Quick Summary: This farm uses Piglins to trade automatically. We trap a Piglin and use a Dropper to give it Gold Ingots. The Piglin examines the gold and drops random items like Obsidian, Ender Pearls, and Potions. We use Redstone to speed up the process.

If you have built our Lava Farm or a massive Gold Farm, you probably have chests full of Gold Ingots. Gold tools are weak, and Gold armor breaks too fast. So, what is the best use for Gold?

The answer is Bartering. Piglins are the greedy residents of the Nether. If you throw a Gold Ingot at them, they will take it and give you something in return. This is not just a small trade; it is the best way to get items that are otherwise very hard to farm.

Do you hate mining Obsidian? Piglins give you stacks of it. Do you need Gravel for Concrete? Piglins give that too. In this guide, we will build a machine that trades gold for you while you stand still. No more throwing items manually.

1. The Science: Piglin Mechanics

Before we place blocks, you need to understand how Piglins think. When a Piglin sees a Gold Ingot on the ground, it runs to pick it up. It looks at the gold for exactly 6 seconds (120 game ticks) to admire it. After 6 seconds, it drops the gold into its inventory and throws a random item back at you.

If you throw 64 gold ingots at once, the Piglin will pick them all up but will only give you ONE item in return. This is a waste of gold. Our machine needs to be smart. It should only throw ONE ingot, wait for the trade to finish, and then throw the next one instantly.

2. Materials List

Get your Crafting Table ready. You need basic redstone components.

Nametag1Prevents despawning.
Comparator1The brain.

Glass8The Cage.
Carpet1Protection.

3. The Design (Cross Section)

The logic is simple: Detect when the Piglin drops an item, and use that signal to fire the next Gold Ingot.

Bartering Farm Cross Section Diagram

Diagram Explanation:
1. Top: The Dropper holds the gold supply.
2. Center: The Piglin stands on a carpet. Under the carpet is a Hopper.
3. Logic: When the Piglin is done inspecting, he drops the item. The item goes through the carpet into the Hopper.
4. Trigger: The Hopper sends a signal to the Comparator, which tells the Dropper "Okay, he is done, send another gold now."

4. Step-by-Step Build Guide

Step 1: Capturing the Piglin

This is the hardest part. You need to find a Piglin in the Nether.
1. Dig a 2-block deep hole.
2. Lure the Piglin into the hole using Gold.
3. Once he is in, throw a Nametag on him immediately so he does not disappear.
4. Crucial: Make sure you are in the Nether. If you try to bring a Piglin to the Overworld, he will turn into a Zombified Piglin and stop trading.

Step 2: The Cage Setup

Build a glass box around the Piglin so he cannot escape or get attacked by Hoglins. Place a Hopper underneath his feet. Place a Carpet on top of the hopper.
Why Carpet? Because Piglins cannot "see" the hopper through the carpet, but items can still pass through it.

Step 3: The Redstone Clock

Place a Dropper pointing down at the Piglin's head.
Connect a Comparator to the bottom Hopper. When an item passes through, the Comparator turns ON. Connect this signal back to the Dropper.
Now, whenever the Piglin drops a trade, the machine automatically refills his hands with Gold.

5. Loot Analysis: What do you get?

Piglins give a wide variety of items. Some are trash, but some are treasures.

ObsidianHighNether Portals, Ender Chests.
GravelHighConcrete Powder, Flint.
Ender PearlsMediumTeleportation, The End.
Fire Res PotionMediumSurviving Lava.

6. Sorting the Treasure

This farm produces items very fast. If you don't sort them, your chests will fill up with Gravel and Nether Brick.

Inventory full of Obsidian and Ender Pearls

You should connect the bottom hopper to a simple sorting system.
1. Keep: Obsidian, Pearls, Quartz, Potions, Leather.
2. Burn: Gravel (unless you need concrete), Iron Nuggets, Nether Brick.
Connect this system to your main Super Smelter if you want to smelt down the Iron Boots into nuggets.

Tip: If you want to maximize profits, you can duplicate this design. Put 4 Piglins in 4 cages next to each other. You will need a massive supply of gold, but the output will be insane.
